Community Participation Mentoring

Community Participation Mentoring supports Participants to build confidence, independence, and practical skills to actively engage in their local community and social environments.

This service focuses on helping Participants develop the skills needed to form connections, navigate community spaces, explore interests, and take part in social and recreational activities aligned with their personal goals.

Support is tailored to each Participant’s comfort level, communication style, and aspirations, with a focus on building long-term independence and meaningful community involvement.

Social Confidence & Communication
  • Developing everyday conversational skills and active listening

  • Building confidence when interacting with the public in shops, cafes, and services

  • Supporting participation in unfamiliar or new social environments

  • Encouraging healthy boundaries and safe social interactions

  • Strengthening self-advocacy and expressing personal needs and preferences

Community Connection & Interest Exploration
  • Identifying hobbies, interests, and activities aligned with personal goals

  • Supporting access to local clubs, groups, workshops, and community spaces

  • Assisting with planning and attending community outings

  • Building confidence to use public facilities such as libraries, parks, and community centres

  • Gradually transitioning from supported participation to independent engagement

Peer Relationships & Social Networks
  • Supporting opportunities to meet peers with similar interests

  • Developing skills to build and maintain friendships

  • Encouraging participation in group activities and shared experiences

  • Supporting safe and appropriate use of social media to stay connected

  • Building a supportive network beyond formal services

Community Participation & Volunteering
  • Exploring local volunteering and community involvement opportunities
