Community Access & Social Participation

Community Access & Social Participation supports Participants to engage meaningfully in community life when disability-related barriers impact their ability to access, participate, or remain connected to social and recreational activities.

This service focuses on reducing isolation, building community confidence, and supporting regular participation in activities that align with the Participant’s interests, goals, and daily routines.

Support is delivered in a person-centred, relationship-based, and goal-oriented way, tailored to the Participant’s individual preferences, functional capacity, and support needs.

Community Engagement & Outings
  • Support to attend community activities and events

  • Visits to parks, beaches, libraries, and recreational spaces

  • Attendance at cultural, religious, or social events

  • Participation in community festivals or group activities

  • Support to re-engage with preferred community environments

Social Participation & Confidence Building
  • Support to attend social groups or clubs

  • Assistance building social interaction skills in public settings

  • Encouragement and coaching in real-world social environments

  • Support to develop confidence in unfamiliar settings

  • Gradual exposure to community participation for confidence building

Everyday Community Access
  • Shopping support (grocery, clothing, personal items)

  • Assistance attending medical or personal appointments

  • Support accessing services (banks, post offices, government services)

  • Help navigating public environments safely and confidently

  • Assistance with structured errands and routine outings

Goal-Oriented Community Participation
  • Participation aligned with NDIS goals

  • Support for hobbies, interests, and personal development activities

  • Building routines for regular community engagement

  • Encouraging independence in planning and attending activities

  • Supporting transition from supported → semi-independent participation where appropriate

Skill Building in Community Settings
  • Travel confidence building (walking routes, public transport exposure where appropriate)

  • Navigating public spaces safely and independently

  • Budgeting during outings (spending awareness support)
